My Sunday Afternoon EP – DJ 3000 feat Ursula Rucker

There is something universally appealing about the end of the weekend. It is a time to relax, a time to recover and a time to reflect on the events of the previous few days. No Sunday afternoon is complete without a laid back, soulful groove that adds the perfect finishing touch.

"My Sunday Afternoon" is a departure for DJ 3000. Not a departure in the sense of abandoning all sense of what was. Rather it is a departure in the sense of taking a step in a more mellow and outwardly inflective direction. When you add the spoken power of Philadelphia's Ursula Rucker, your Sunday afternoon takes on a whole new level of significance. Having worked with downtempo masters such as King Britt and 4hero lend Ursula Rucker a distinguished place in the halls of the spoken word.

Lending an even more lush interpretation to "My Sunday Afternoon" is a remix by Deviant of the Beta Bodega label. In addition to Rucker's vibrant spoken piece, Deviant adds a warm blend of his signature soul-filled rhythmic and percussive elements.

Closing out the EP is a remix by Detroit's own DL Jones. Incorporating elements of live instrumentation, including Scott Sumner on piano, Jerry Lennox on sax, and Randy Lynch on guitar, DL Jones dips the piece in his inflective and soulful style that have made his production hard to ignore in Detroit and around the globe.

"My Sunday Afternoon" is the latest installment of creative output from Motech Records. If there has ever been a release that fosters our mission of pushing the boundaries where no boundaries exist, this is that record. Are you listening to the sound of forward progression?
